I bought a pair of Salomons for my first trip to South America, 10 years ago, on the advice of my other half, who is from Haute-Savoie. I still have them. Admittedly, I’m not an intensive user, but these shoes have climbed to over 5000m altitude and have been all over Latin America, covering all types of terrain and all types of conditions.

Outsole

Contagrip rubber, specially formulated by Salomon to provide excellent grip on different types of surfaces, including wet and slippery terrain. The tread pattern is designed to provide optimum traction both uphill and downhill.

Midsole

EnergyCell in EVA, which provides responsive cushioning while helping to reduce impact on the ground, improving comfort on long hikes.

Stem

Synthetic and textile materials, offering a good balance between durability and lightness. These materials are treated to be abrasion-resistant, especially in high-wear areas such as the toes.

Main uses:

Hiking or trekking in the mountains.

Everyday outdooractivities.

Possible limits:

Weight of men’s model: 390g per shoe, i.e. 780g per pair.
Weight of women’s model: 360g per shoe, i.e. 720g per pair.

Rather warm shoes, as Gore-Tex models often are.
